Students are selected for entry to Sydney Technical
High School. Entry into Year 7 is based on results
from the Selective Schools Unit test which evaluates
performance in English language, Mathematics and
General Ability. In years 8 - 12 vacancies are
filled on merit. As a selective school a strong
emphasis is placed on academic studies.
The staff at Sydney Tech creates a learning
environment in which every student is offered the
opportunity to reach his full potential. The school is
proud of the achievements of its students and of the
young men who graduate from the school to enter a wide
range of professions and careers.
Sydney Technical High School is an academically
selective boys high school administered by the New
South Wales Department of Education.The school enjoys a
sound reputation for academic achievement with a Higher
School Certificate history of students being regularly
placed in the top 10 places in the state in a variety
of subjects.
Professional Staff
Sydney Tech has an experienced and professional staff
committed to the academic, sporting, social and
emotional welfare of the students. There are currently
over 60 teachers who are aided by an administrative
team and support staff.
Career Planning
The need for thorough career planning is important as
over 95% of Sydney Tech students proceed to further
study with over 80% of Year 12 moving into university or
professional study. The Careers Advisor co-ordinates a
multifaceted career education program consisting of
classroom lessons, small group seminars, excursions,
individual job counselling and interviews, guest
speakers and work experience. The Careers Resource
Centre provides access to a computerised job and
course explorer program which contains information on
over 2000 courses available through TAFE, Universities
and Training Centres.
Leadership/Responsibility
Opportunities exist for students to develop leadership
and accept responsibility through the Prefect System,
Student Representative Council, Peer Support Program
and Interact.
Gifted and Talented Programme
The student body contains a large number of gifted and
talented students who require additional opportunities
to enhance their academic and creative potential. The
curriculum incorporates enrichment work in the key
learning areas and extra curricula activities are
designed for gifted students. Individual needs are
catered for through a �mentor� program. Other
acceleration options are also offered.
Student Welfare
The welfare program was designed by the staff, parents
and students. Each form has an experienced teacher as
a year patron. The School Counsellor works closely
with year patrons and staff to assist students to resolve
their personal, social, emotional and academic concerns.
A Merit System rewards academic, cultural and sporting
achievements and community service.
Education Business Links
A program aimed at developing closer links between
Sydney Technical High, the community and business
forms the basis for increased student awareness of
alternative career paths. Such practical business
experiences enhance classroom studies.
